Former Gunners’ ‘Vela’ retires

Former Arsenal youngster Carlos Vela has retired at the age of 36 and is set to become an ambassador for the club he made a legend out of.

The Mexican has been with LA FC since 2018 and has since set the club’s all-time record for games, goals and assists with 78 goals and 59 assists in 152 appearances.

Vela’s exploits helped him win a MLS title and broke the club’s record for most goals scored in a single season with 34 goals in 2019. Vela

began his career at Guadalajara in his home country before joining the Gunners’ academy in 2005. Vela

in midweek, hailing him as a club legend, and will hold a farewell ceremony for fans at the stadium in September.

“Helping LA during that era, building the team and winning trophies for the club. “It’s the highlight of my football career,” the 72-time international began.

“This club means a lot to me and my family. I’m proud of what we’ve done together and I’m excited to start the next chapter with the city.”
